Professor Emad Moeendarbary, Professor of Cell Mechanics and Mechanobiology in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London (UCL), will join ICBME 2026 as a keynote speaker and present on “Engineering Mechanobiology: Microphysiological Systems for Drug Discovery and Regenerative Medicine.”
We are honored to announce that Professor Emad Moeendarbary, Professor of Cell Mechanics and Mechanobiology at University College London, will join ICBME 2026 as a keynote speaker. Professor Moeendarbary is a leading researcher combining engineering, physics, and cell biology to develop microphysiological systems and mechanobiology-based technologies for studying tissue repair, neurodegeneration, and regenerative medicine. He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and is the founder of BioRecode Ltd, a biotechnology company dedicated to translating advances in mechanobiology into innovative research tools and drug discovery platforms, with a particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases. The title of his keynote speech is “Engineering Mechanobiology: Microphysiological Systems for Drug Discovery and Regenerative Medicine.” In this lecture, Professor Moeendarbary will address how mechanical forces—which are fundamental regulators of cell behavior, tissue function, and disease progression, yet often absent from conventional models—can be integrated into research. He will present recent work on engineering mechanically defined human microphysiological systems that recreate key aspects of the tissue microenvironment, demonstrating how this approach reveals new biological mechanisms and enhances the predictive power of drug discovery platforms.
