Isfahan University of Technology, as the largest university in the country in terms of area, began its design and construction in 1974 after the required land was provided by the National Forests and Rangelands Organization (under the former Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources) and the purchase and preparation of registration documents (with an area of 2,300 hectares, according to the extensive plans foreseen in the initial plan) in the spatial area between the two cities of Isfahan and Khomeini Shahr, with an industry, technology and engineering approach; and its construction and completion stages continued after the victory of the glorious Islamic Revolution.
With the establishment of Isfahan University of Technology and the idea of transferring one of the industrial universities located in Tehran (currently Sharif) to Isfahan and combining modern knowledge and industry (Isfahan as the second largest industrial city in the country), the groundwork was laid for the creation of an international university city with a capacity of approximately 150,000 people based on the high environmental, ecological and man-made, cultural, social and economic, historical, human resources capabilities and capacities of Isfahan province in the geography of the country and its proximity to several other provinces. The design and architecture of Isfahan University of Technology was based on horizontal development and considering horizontalization rather than high-rise construction, as well as observing and considering the organic relationships between the structural space and the environment, and inspired by Iranian-Islamic architecture to meet the maximum cultural, social, psychological and environmental needs of the university community.
Isfahan University of Technology is among the top ten universities in the country, known as the "Forty Pillars of Knowledge and Technology" and began its educational activities in 1977 by admitting about 800 students in some technical, engineering and agricultural fields. This university currently has a history of educational activity of nearly 50 years, has 16 faculties, 8 research institutes and 50 research groups, 5 scientific poles, more than 500 faculty members, about 1200 administrative and service staff and 11,000 students in specialized doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree fields, and is committed to training skilled and specialized human resources. The campus of Isfahan University of Technology, with its unique scientific, equipment, facilities, welfare, sports facilities, and easy access to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in the central region of Iran, and highly equipped laboratories in various scientific fields, with a publishing collection including: more than 300,000 printed books, 800,000 digital books, more than 25 scientific research journals, and subscriptions to reputable electronic and printed journals in the world, is a precious heritage that can always serve researchers and the scientific community to advance and develop the country's scientific and educational fields. So far, a large number of professors of this university have been introduced as provincial figures, exemplary professors and researchers of the country, and scientists of the top one percent of the world, and have been honored by high-ranking provincial and national officials. Also, a large number of graduates of this university have held and continue to hold important political, executive, and managerial positions in the country at different times.
It is noted that since the "Science and Technology" Special Zone has been approved and located for a long time as a set of scientific, industrial, manufacturing, laboratory and research facilities, with an emphasis on the aspects of creativity and innovation in a geographical area that can promote innovation, create industrial clusters with new technology and development, generate wealth, national welfare and create knowledge-based activities, actions and events in the Isfahan metropolis, the Isfahan University of Technology campus has the necessary capabilities and capabilities to create "the first university city and special zone for the knowledge-based economy of the Islamic Republic of Iran" in realizing the main policies adopted for innovation and new technologies in various dimensions and sectors and with the presence of technology-leading companies, and can be considered part of its mission and one of the missions of the Science and Technology Special Zone, and lead and shape the expansion of the province's modern economic discourse based on a knowledge-based economy, clean industries with high technology, non-water-intensive and environmentally friendly.
