Professor Aydın Akan Announced as Keynote Speaker at ICBME 2026
Prof. Aydın Akan, Professor and Department Chair of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Izmir University of Economics, will join the ICBME 2026 conference as a keynote speaker. He will present on the topic: “EEG Signal Processing and Classification Applications Using Artificial Intelligence Methods.”
We are honored to announce that Prof. Dr. Aydın Akan, a distinguished researcher in nonstationary signal processing, time-frequency signal analysis, and AI applications in biomedical engineering, will be a featured keynote speaker at ICBME 2026. Prof. Akan received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. His extensive academic leadership includes serving as the Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture at Izmir Katip Celebi University, following a distinguished tenure at Istanbul University. A Senior Member of the IEEE Signal Processing (SP) and Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMB) Societies, he also serves as an Associate Editor for the Elsevier Digital Signal Processing journal and Section Editor for the Franklin Open Journal of the Franklin Institute. His keynote address, “EEG Signal Processing and Classification Applications Using Artificial Intelligence Methods,” explores the transformative role of AI in the automatic diagnosis of neurological disorders. Prof. Akan will introduce state-of-the-art methods for processing multi-channel EEG signals, utilizing advanced signal decomposition techniques—such as Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and Intrinsic Time-Scale Mode Decomposition (ITD)—alongside time-frequency approaches like Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) and Synchro-Squeezing Transform (SST). By integrating these with advanced machine learning and deep learning frameworks, his work demonstrates how to extract highly discriminative features for the accurate detection of conditions such as Alzheimer’s Dementia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
We invite all researchers, professionals, engineers, and students interested in biosignal processing, AI in medicine, and advanced diagnostic technologies to attend this insightful lecture at ICBME 2026.
